She is his advocate  
Sometimes silent, sometimes screaming    
Always watching    

They are two halves  
coming together from different wholes  
not quite a perfect match  
fitting together anyway, somehow  

Like oil and vinegar
When they are shaken no lines of separation are visible  
and then they begin to separate again    
At the last minute they hold on and don’t let go.  

They are not fluent in each other’s languages    
But like a stubborn tourist, they persist and settle in    
Almost a native but sometimes still so foreign and strange.  
--How could you?  
 --I don’t know.  

He is her sounding board    
Sometimes critical, sometimes supporting  
Always trying  

It is inconceivable that they are partners   
and yet it is so right!  
A fish and a bird are lovers       
and I know where they make their home.
