A Joyful Journey...

Join Doris Smeltzer, critically acclaimed author/educator, as she muses on topics from eating disorders to the mysteries of life. Often "Featured" are select, astute observations made by Andrea during her all too brief 19-year life…it is she who taught us: the joy IS in the journey!

Andrea's Weekly Quote:

Andrea, 18, observing our relationship during Tom’s open-heart surgery:

                                               Blue Bird 2Fish 2

She is his advocate
Sometimes silent, sometimes screaming
Always watching

They are two halves
coming together from different wholes
not quite a perfect match
fitting together anyway, somehow

Like oil and vinegar
When they are shaken no lines of separation are visible
and then they begin to separate again
At the last minute they hold on and don’t let go.

They are not fluent in each other’s languages
But like a stubborn tourist, they persist and settle in
Almost a native but sometimes still so foreign and strange.
--How could you?
 --I don’t know.

He is her sounding board
Sometimes critical, sometimes supporting
Always trying

It is inconceivable that they are partners
and yet it is so right!
A fish and a bird are lovers
and I know where they make their home.
