A Joyful Journey...

Join Doris Smeltzer, critically acclaimed author/educator, as she muses on topics from eating disorders to the mysteries of life. Often "Featured" are select, astute observations made by Andrea during her all too brief 19-year life…it is she who taught us: the joy IS in the journey!

Andrea's Weekly Quote

tent campingContinuation of the letter begun two Friday's ago:

And sometimes the memories are not as good. Often I remember how hard I was to live with, though recently not as often as in the past. And the horrible things I used to be able to say and the way I was able to act. And even more recently, I think Dad can probably recall a few times during our week of camping he would have liked to throttle me![1] And now it seems so stupid! And I don’t know or understand how I could have ever been that person but knowing all the same that it’s a part of me.

--Andrea, 15

[1] Prior to Andrea leaving for Spain, Andrea and Tom went on a weeklong camping trip together on their way to pick me up from Humboldt University where I was attending a ten-day institute on environmental education.
